The third of the three sister ships would be the largest. Lessons learned from the Titanic disaster prompted many changes in Britannic's design. Although the same length as her earlier sisters, she was a bit wider because of a new "double hull." Launched in 1914, the ship was fitted with massive gantry davits designed to launch lifeboats more quickly. During World War One Britannic was requisitioned by the British Admiralty and converted to a hospital ship before she could carry a single paying passenger. The vessel struck a mine in the Aegean Sea on November 21, 1916, and sank in less than an hour with the loss of 21 lives.
